Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef sausage, sliced into half-inch rounds
  • 12 ounces penne pasta
  • 1.5 cups hickory BBQ sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3.5 cups beef broth
  • 1 medium red onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

Method

  1. Heat a large heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat.
  2. Brown the beef sausage slices for five minutes until a crisp exterior forms.
  3. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for one minute until fragrant.
  5. Pour in the beef broth and barbecue sauce, then stir in the honey until well combined.
  6. Add the dry penne pasta to the pot, ensuring it is mostly submerged in the liquid.
  7. Reduce heat to a simmer, cover the pot securely, and cook for 12 to 14 minutes.
  8. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking and prevent sticking until the pasta is al dente and the sauce has thickened.

Notes

Ensure the pasta is fully covered by liquid to cook evenly. You can substitute penne with rotini if desired. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
