Creamy Parmesan Orzo with Chicken and Asparagus

A quick, one-pan Mediterranean-inspired meal that combines tender cubed chicken, nutritious asparagus, and silky orzo pasta. By cooking the pasta directly in seasoned chicken broth, the starch creates a naturally creamy sauce enhanced by Parmesan and a touch of heavy cream. It is a perfect, balanced dinner for busy weeknights that minimizes cleanup without sacrificing restaurant-quality flavor or texture.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Chicken Breast, cut into small cubes
  • 1.5 cups Orzo Pasta
  • 1 bunch Asparagus, trimmed and chopped
  • 3 cups Chicken Broth (low sodium)
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan Cheese, freshly grated
  • 0.25 cup Heavy Cream
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil

Method

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large deep skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add cubed chicken and sear for 5 minutes until golden brown, then set aside.
  3. Add minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 30 seconds.
  4. Stir in the dry orzo and toast for 2 minutes.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer.
  6. Cook until most of the broth is absorbed and the orzo is al dente.
  7. Stir in the asparagus and the cooked chicken, cooking for another 3-4 minutes.
  8. Remove from heat and stir in the heavy cream and grated Parmesan cheese.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use a deep skillet to prevent splashing while adding broth. Ensure the orzo is toasted lightly to add a nutty flavor depth to the final dish. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
